When I was in college, someone gave my father, a known chocaholic, Maida Heatter’s Book of Great Chocolate Desserts as a joke. But I took it pretty seriously, working my way through it recipe by recipe. I have been evolving as a cook and food writer ever since, graduating from sugar and butter to just about anything that involves garlic or caramelized onions.
